Celebrating Champions of Change
SILVER SPRING, MD, February 07, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Come join us at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church for the 20th Annual Living Legends Awards for Service to Humanity, a special event honoring individuals who have made a significant impact on the community through their service. This in-person celebration will take place on Saturday, February 22, from 6 PM to 9 PM EST at 7700 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912. The theme this year is Champions of Change.
The Living Legends Awards for Service to Humanity began at the Emmanuel-Brinklow Church in 2006. Since its inception, the awards have honored over 50 remarkable individuals, including prominent figures such as the late U.S. Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee, and the late Ella Jenkins, among many others.
Twenty years ago, Doreen Hines, the Living Legends Awards for Service to Humanity Foundation founder and executive director, started this initiative to “educate and inspire young people to serve their communities by introducing them to individuals who are living a life of service.”
This February, the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia communities have an opportunity to participate in an unforgettable night that will feature the selfless contributions of remarkable individuals.
We will honor four living legends:
• Joseph McCoy – Advocate Within Faith Community
• Jason Holt – Champion of Restorative Justice
• Angela Holder – Champion of Restorative Justice
• David R. Williams – Leader in Social Science & Health Equity
